This holiday season, if you’re looking for a quick and easy cookie to share with your loved ones, try a spritz cookie! You can take the spritz cookie in the classic route with a butter-vanilla flavor, or you can spice it up like I did! I made a warm, ginger-spiced spritz cookie to add to our cookie collection this year. My sister-in-laws got me one of these lovely Wilton spritz cookie makers for a Christmas gift last year and I love it. There’s something so fun and satisfying about pressing out these perfectly beautiful stamped cookies! 🙂 This recipe was modified from the Wilton cookie recipe book that comes with the spritz cookie tool. Croatian Christmas Cookies 2017
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and my favorite baking day… the day we bake our Croatian Christmas cookies! Some years our annual baking day includes my mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and I while my grandpa “supervises” back in Michigan; but for the past two years, mom and I have baked together here in Chicago.
You may have read in my “About Me” section that this is a very important tradition on my Mom’s side of the family, and this is very near and dear to my heart. Since I was a little girl, Mom and I would head over to Grandma’s house, and we would spend the day baking these recipes that the women in my family brought over from former Yugoslavia, now known as Croatia. Mixed-Berry Pie
IT’S PI(E) DAY! What a great reason to bake a warm homemade pie right?!
Life has been a little crazy these days and I haven’t been able to dedicate the right energy and time my baking deserves the past few weeks, but this pie brought everything back into place in the best ways. I’m grateful for this sweet little pie for this reason. It turned out so pretty, smelling like heaven, and delicious so I can’t wait to share this recipe with you! Happy Pi(e) Day! Croatian Chocolate Ice Squares (Ledene Kocke)
It’s been too long since I’ve baked a Croatian treat! One of the things I love most about Croatian desserts is the layering – you’ll find that so many of these desserts are delicately layered, beautiful bars and some are airy and creamy. Today I’m baking Ledene Kocke which is known as Chocolate Ice Squares. Continue reading “Croatian Chocolate Ice Squares (Ledene Kocke)”
Pretzel Bites with Honey Mustard & Cheesy Jalapeño Dipping Sauces
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Go Pats!
Today I have a savory, homemade baked treat that’s perfect for a Super Bowl party – pretzel bites. I have been craving soft, warm pretzels lately so I’m super excited to make some of my own.
I found this yummy pretzel bite + cheesy jalapeño dipping sauce combination on Pinterest from CarlsbadCravings which she adapted from Alton Brown. I followed this recipe exactly for the pretzels (and they turned out amazing), and I modified the cheese dip sauce which you can see below. French Macarons
As I mentioned in my Chocolate SoufflĂ© post, my intentions in 2017 are to bake things I’ve never attempted before… recipes that take true patience and presence… like French Macarons!
In Chicago, there are cute little Macaron shops all over the city showcasing unique flavor combinations and pretty pastel colors. I’m sure they are a big hit during Valentine’s Day! But rather than swinging by to pick some up, I of course want to bake some of my own for my Valentine’s. Continue reading “French Macarons”
