Does rosemary & olive oil ice-cream sound totally weird to you? It did to me at first. One of the first dates Aaron and I went on while we were dating long distance between Chicago and LA was to RPM Italian in Chicago. We loved their food and atomosphere from the start, so this became a regular date-night spot for the two of us. During one of our visits, they had a special gelato for the night – flavored with rosemary, olive oil and sea salt. I thought to myself – this is weird, but I also love rosemary and this is probably super good – and it’s literally one of my most favorite flavor combinations now. Classic Carrot Cake
Hoppy Easter! What a beautiful weekend in Chicago, I hope it’s as lovely as it is here where you are!
It’s been just over a year since we’ve moved into our home-sweet-home in Chicago… just in time for Easter. Last year during Easter, my dad and his wife came to spend the holiday with us and they’ve come back to join us again this year with their two new puppies! Typically during the Holidays we’re off to visit our families in Michigan, so I’m grateful for new traditions in our own home. We will have a house full of family, friends and fur babies to share Easter dinner and dessert with. Continue reading “Classic Carrot Cake”
Cinnamon Rolls with a Buttery Glaze
Most of our weekends are spent with our good friend having game nights (we get overly competitive with Clue and Monopoly btw), trying new restaurants, and having bonfires complete with smores in the summer! With it being his birthday this weekend, I asked him what I could make for a birthday treat and he said his favorite treats are cinnamon rolls – what better nightcap then a homemade warm cinnamon roll with a cold glass of milk?! Lemon Cheesecake with Streusel Topping
Happy Sunday! It’s starting to warm up a bit here in Chicago so I’m looking forward to getting outside a bit more today. Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait to enjoy it with some new outdoor projects around the house, planting herbs and flowers, and playing outside with Zoey.
Last night we had plans to attend our friends housewarming party, and I received a special request to bring Aaron’s famous chocolate chip cookies (don’t worry, I’ll blog this soon), and my moms famous cheesecake. With Spring approaching, I decided to put a little spring twist on moms original recipe with the addition of more lemon flavoring and a graham cracker-streusel topping! Croatian Chocolate Ice Squares (Ledene Kocke)
It’s been too long since I’ve baked a Croatian treat! One of the things I love most about Croatian desserts is the layering – you’ll find that so many of these desserts are delicately layered, beautiful bars and some are airy and creamy. Today I’m baking Ledene Kocke which is known as Chocolate Ice Squares. Continue reading “Croatian Chocolate Ice Squares (Ledene Kocke)”
Pretzel Bites with Honey Mustard & Cheesy Jalapeño Dipping Sauces
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Go Pats!
Today I have a savory, homemade baked treat that’s perfect for a Super Bowl party – pretzel bites. I have been craving soft, warm pretzels lately so I’m super excited to make some of my own.
I found this yummy pretzel bite + cheesy jalapeño dipping sauce combination on Pinterest from CarlsbadCravings which she adapted from Alton Brown. I followed this recipe exactly for the pretzels (and they turned out amazing), and I modified the cheese dip sauce which you can see below.
