Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Today’s recipe is for my husband Aaron – he’s a big football fan and loves all things sugar and Bourbon. It’s tradition that we stay in for the Super Bowl (usually Chicago gets hit with a huge snow storm on this day every year), and we prepare our favorite snacks together and welcome whoever wants to join us! Typically our spread consists of wings, homemade pretzels & dips, buffalo chicken dip, charcuterie, and some sort of sweet treat. This years sweet treats are Orange-Cardamom Sugar Cookies with Bourbon. Continue reading “Orange-Cardamom Sugar Cookies with Bourbon”

Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar Cookies
Happy December!
I may have said it before, but I’ll say it again – not a fan of sugar cookies! However I learned I am most certainly a fan of Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar Cookies :). These cookies remind me of the brownies I make, but in sugar cookie form and I love it!
Mom’s in town for our annual Mother/Daughter Christmas weekend in Chicago where we do Christmas-y things, enjoy our annual Holiday High Tea at the Drake Hotel, and bake the rest of our Croatian Christmas Cookies. This year my excitement got the best of me thinking of Mom being here and all the friends we’ll be spending time with this weekend, so I got started early on a fun new recipe to share with them! Gingerbread Cookies
Trick or Treat! The Gingerbread Cookie just got a little spooky by becoming Mummies and Skeletons thanks to some fun Halloween decorating ideas! This is a classic Gingerbread recipe interpreted by Martha Stewart and decorated with a fun twist just in time for the Halloween season. Now I don’t have kids, but I sure did have a blast decorating these and I think it’s safe to assume that kids would enjoy this as well! Continue reading “Gingerbread Cookies”
Butter Cookies
We’re heading into prime cookie-decorating season! In the past I’ve posted recipes for Pumpkin Spice Cookies and Shortbread Cookies, but next up is Butter Cookies. Butter Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. They are so buttery, but slightly salty. They have a soft crunch, but melt in your mouth. They are so amazing that I love having them naked – without any frosting. However sugar-lovers alike will love this cookie more with a double-dose of sugar by decorating with Royal Icing and Buttercream! Continue reading “Butter Cookies”
Croatian Almond Crescent Cookies
Almond crescent cookies are another staple in our Croatian Christmas cookie baking day! These pretty little snowy crescent moons are another sweet treat that are prefect for a morning cup of coffee or post-dinner espresso. Speaking of espresso, in the afternoons, we often enjoyed Bosnian coffee (or Turkish coffee) together and these cookies are a perfect hint of sweet to the strong coffee flavor. Fun fact… this is also the same type of coffee that’s used in fortune telling. When the cup is finished, the left over grounds at the bottom form patterns called tasseomancy that is interpreted. Croatian Walnut Kifle Cookies
Kifle cookies are so darn good. We make two different kinds every year during our annual Croatian Cookie baking day. One is from a secret recipe that’s filled with a plum or apricot jam – these are SO good when you eat them fresh from the oven. The jam is warm and the dough is flaky and oh so tasty. The second kifle recipe we make is filled with a walnut mixture and rolled in powdered sugar. These sweet little treats goes perfect with a cup of coffee.
