Summer is in full effect in late August here in Chicago – boy is it HOT! This past weekend, my girlfriend and blogger extrodanaire Annie over at Give Me Meatloaf and I got together for a Sunday-Funday brunch. Annie put together a delicious Mexican-style savory breakfast hash with all the necessary fixings such as salsa, avocado, cheeses and jalapeños. It definitely hit the spot, especially since we’re both lovers of Mexican food! Continue reading “Rum-Funfetti Cake & Tropical Fruit Layered Dessert”

Lemon-Raspberry Coffee Cake
I love coffee cakes because of the obvious – they go so well with coffee! It’s a tradition at the art studio for the students to share in a potluck at the end of each class session. Most sessions last 10 weeks and are full of meeting new people, learning new techniques about pottery, and learning new things about life in general often times. What I love about our potlucks is that you get to see peoples cooking/baking talents. Most people also opt to serve their potluck dishes in their own artwork they’ve created which is also super fun! For this rounds potluck, I chose this Lemon-Raspberry Coffee Cake! Continue reading “Lemon-Raspberry Coffee Cake”
Strawberry-Rhubarb Ice Cream
In my last recipe, I made Strawberry Rhubarb Scones which left me with some leftover strawberries and rhubarb on a steamy 90 degree day in Chicago. Given the hot weather, I was in the mood for something refreshing so I searched for some strawberry rhubarb ice cream recipes… I found a great Martha Stewart recipe that I adapted slightly. This ice cream is sweet and tangy and perfect for a hot day!
Ice cream in general is super fun and surprisingly easy to make. It’s also easy to be creative with when you start out with a simple ice cream base, you can then play with the ingredients for flavor. You can make whatever flavor you want! Continue reading “Strawberry-Rhubarb Ice Cream”
Strawberry-Rhubarb Scones
I’m back! 2018 has been a busy year for me so far with a lot of changes so I wanted to take a moment to share some updates…
This year has been full of so much time and energy being invested into my Reiki/Yoga practice and building up my art inventory. A few months ago I began renting a space to build my practice at a holistic wellness center here in Chicago called Northside Holistic Center. I currently take clients there 1 day a week for a variety of services including Reiki, private Yoga & Meditation and aromatherapy. Part of my time has been spent managing and marketing my practice as I am building a clientele. Continue reading “Strawberry-Rhubarb Scones”
Cherry Chocolate Chunk Cookies + Girls Weekend in Pure Michigan!
It’s been a week since I got back from my lovely long girls weekend with my Mom and Aunt Michele in Frankfort, MI, and boy did we have a wonderful time – I can’t wait to do it all again next year!!!
One of the things we did on the first day was visit North Star Organics cherry farm nearby. This farm is so charming and beautiful and they were actually featured in a beautiful spread in Martha Stewart Living which was neat to see! They had both sweet and sour cherries, so we decided to do some fresh picking of red and white sweet cherries – these cherries are seriously so good and fresh. Not only did they have super yummy fresh cherries, but they have awesome dried cherries too that I decided I wanted to bake in a classic chocolate chip cookie. Lemon Bar with Raspberry Shortbread Crumble
I’m on a crumble kick right now! I put this recipe together not quite knowing how successful it would be, but I must say it’s pretty darn good and combines some of my favorite flavors and textures. Yesterday was quite the baking adventure filled with blunders, however I had some furry friends keeping me company and making me smile!
