Trick or Treat! The Gingerbread Cookie just got a little spooky by becoming Mummies and Skeletons thanks to some fun Halloween decorating ideas! This is a classic Gingerbread recipe interpreted by Martha Stewart and decorated with a fun twist just in time for the Halloween season. Now I don’t have kids, but I sure did have a blast decorating these and I think it’s safe to assume that kids would enjoy this as well! Continue reading “Gingerbread Cookies”

Croatian Apple Cake
Last weekend, I took a trip to the suburbs of Chicago to visit a pumpkin patch which is one of my all time favorite fall activities! This particular pumpkin patch had a lovely little shop with all the fall grocery items – donuts, pies, ciders, breads, all the squashes, APPLES and more. I came home with pecan pie, cinnamon-apple donuts, cider, squash and a bushel of apples.
Typically when I think of using apples in a Croatian dessert, it’s for my grandmothers apple strudel recipe which is to die for and is a bit different from traditional strudel. Continue reading “Croatian Apple Cake”
Butter Cookies
We’re heading into prime cookie-decorating season! In the past I’ve posted recipes for Pumpkin Spice Cookies and Shortbread Cookies, but next up is Butter Cookies. Butter Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. They are so buttery, but slightly salty. They have a soft crunch, but melt in your mouth. They are so amazing that I love having them naked – without any frosting. However sugar-lovers alike will love this cookie more with a double-dose of sugar by decorating with Royal Icing and Buttercream! Continue reading “Butter Cookies”
Fall-Spiced Muffins with Vanilla Glaze
YAY, it’s my favorite season! Happy Fall Y’all! Here in Chicago the leaves are slowly starting to change colors and fall off the trees, the temperature is dropping, and the grey skies are setting in with rain. Just in time for spooky season! 😉
Not only do I love fall weather, but I adore the flavors that come along with fall – both for savory food and sweet treats. It’s time for squashes, chillies, pastas, stews, soups, fall-spices, pies, rich cakes and more. However, I will admit I’m not as obsessed with “pumpkin-everything” as most lovers of fall are, and [CONFESSION] I’ve never had a Pumpkin-Spiced Latte. Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Tart
It’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving recipes, can you believe it?! I love chocolate and pecan pies, and my husband loves bourbon so it was only a matter of time before this little dessert party happened. For Thanksgiving/Christmas, I typically like to bring pecan pie to share with family and friends. This year, we’ll be hosting our first Thanksgiving and I think this recipe makes for a great little twist to the classic pecan pie. If you want to go sans bourbon too, you’re still going to end up with a super yummy dessert! Depending on the size of your tart pan, this recipe will either make 2 medium-sized tarts, or 1 large. The cool thing about using a medium-sized tart pan is that you could keep one of the tarts classic or bourbon-free, while the other tart has the bourbon-chocolate party going on. Butternut Squash Galette
Tis the season for butternut squash! I’ve been learning lately that butternut squash can be so versatile. I’ve been adding it to my chili which adds a slight sweetness to balance out the heat which has become a new favorite of mine. You can also puree it to create sweet pies or tarts, or toss it in a Galette. Galette’s are becoming a new comfort food for me during lunch time, and I love to keep them quick and easy by using pre-made pie crust. Continue reading “Butternut Squash Galette”
