Kifle cookies are so darn good. We make two different kinds every year during our annual Croatian Cookie baking day. One is from a secret recipe that’s filled with a plum or apricot jam – these are SO good when you eat them fresh from the oven. The jam is warm and the dough is flaky and oh so tasty. The second kifle recipe we make is filled with a walnut mixture and rolled in powdered sugar. These sweet little treats goes perfect with a cup of coffee. Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Tart
It’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving recipes, can you believe it?! I love chocolate and pecan pies, and my husband loves bourbon so it was only a matter of time before this little dessert party happened. For Thanksgiving/Christmas, I typically like to bring pecan pie to share with family and friends. This year, we’ll be hosting our first Thanksgiving and I think this recipe makes for a great little twist to the classic pecan pie. If you want to go sans bourbon too, you’re still going to end up with a super yummy dessert! Depending on the size of your tart pan, this recipe will either make 2 medium-sized tarts, or 1 large. The cool thing about using a medium-sized tart pan is that you could keep one of the tarts classic or bourbon-free, while the other tart has the bourbon-chocolate party going on. Butternut Squash Galette
Tis the season for butternut squash! I’ve been learning lately that butternut squash can be so versatile. I’ve been adding it to my chili which adds a slight sweetness to balance out the heat which has become a new favorite of mine. You can also puree it to create sweet pies or tarts, or toss it in a Galette. Galette’s are becoming a new comfort food for me during lunch time, and I love to keep them quick and easy by using pre-made pie crust. Continue reading “Butternut Squash Galette”
Lemon Bar with Raspberry Shortbread Crumble
I’m on a crumble kick right now! I put this recipe together not quite knowing how successful it would be, but I must say it’s pretty darn good and combines some of my favorite flavors and textures. Yesterday was quite the baking adventure filled with blunders, however I had some furry friends keeping me company and making me smile!

Raspberry Crumb Cake
Happy 4th of July week! We love the 4th of July festivities; except when the dog panic ensues over the fireworks of course :(. I grew up boating with my family every 4th of July and each year I couldn’t wait for the fun it would bring. We would grab some friends and fireworks, anchor our boat to Sugar Island in Lake Erie, then BBQ and camp out for long weekends. Since Aaron and I got together, I’ve joined in on his tradition of a long weekend in Frankfort with friends and family filled with bonfires and a trip down the Platte river on a kayak. I’m grateful for new and old traditions that create lasting memories and I’m looking forward to this years adventures. ❤ Continue reading “Raspberry Crumb Cake”
