Happy 4th of July week! We love the 4th of July festivities; except when the dog panic ensues over the fireworks of course :(. I grew up boating with my family every 4th of July and each year I couldn’t wait for the fun it would bring. We would grab some friends and fireworks, anchor our boat to Sugar Island in Lake Erie, then BBQ and camp out for long weekends. Since Aaron and I got together, I’ve joined in on his tradition of a long weekend in Frankfort with friends and family filled with bonfires and a trip down the Platte river on a kayak. I’m grateful for new and old traditions that create lasting memories and I’m looking forward to this years adventures. ❤ Continue reading “Raspberry Crumb Cake”

Hoppy Easter! What a beautiful weekend in Chicago, I hope it’s as lovely as it is here where you are!
It’s been just over a year since we’ve moved into our home-sweet-home in Chicago… just in time for Easter. Last year during Easter, my dad and his wife came to spend the holiday with us and they’ve come back to join us again this year with their two new puppies! Typically during the Holidays we’re off to visit our families in Michigan, so I’m grateful for new traditions in our own home. We will have a house full of family, friends and fur babies to share Easter dinner and dessert with. Continue reading “Classic Carrot Cake”

It’s my favorite baking day of the year – the day that we bake our Croatian Christmas cookies!!! You may have read in my “About Me” section that this is a very important tradition on my Mom’s side of the family, and this is very near and dear to my heart. Since I was a little girl, Mom and I would head over to Grandma’s house, and we would spend the day baking these recipes that the women in my family brought over from Croatia. The recipes are found in countless, handwritten books in Croatian. Continue reading “Croatian Christmas Cookies!”
It’s that time of year… the time to bake our Croatian Christmas cookies! Each year, we toss in a few traditional cookies in the mix, such as Tea Time Tassies – also known as Pecan Tassies. These happen to be my personal favorite because I love the buttery, creamy-cheese flakey crust combined with the sweet, nutty Pecan filling. These tasty little cups are super easy to make, but take a little bit of time in order to mold the cups for the filling – especially when you make between 48-64 like we do!
