Mom’s here for a fun-filled Mother’s Day weekend in Chicago and I couldn’t be more happy to have her here! We walked around in Lincoln Park this afternoon and had lunch together. When we left the restaurant, she caught notice of a French Macaron shop, so I asked if she’d be interested in making them ourselves this afternoon instead – so that’s what we did! We made French Macarons filled with salted caramel buttercream that we dipped in dark chocolate, then dipped in praline crumble – YUM, this was seriously so good!! Rosemary & Olive Oil Ice-Cream
Does rosemary & olive oil ice-cream sound totally weird to you? It did to me at first. One of the first dates Aaron and I went on while we were dating long distance between Chicago and LA was to RPM Italian in Chicago. We loved their food and atomosphere from the start, so this became a regular date-night spot for the two of us. During one of our visits, they had a special gelato for the night – flavored with rosemary, olive oil and sea salt. I thought to myself – this is weird, but I also love rosemary and this is probably super good – and it’s literally one of my most favorite flavor combinations now. Classic Carrot Cake
Hoppy Easter! What a beautiful weekend in Chicago, I hope it’s as lovely as it is here where you are!
It’s been just over a year since we’ve moved into our home-sweet-home in Chicago… just in time for Easter. Last year during Easter, my dad and his wife came to spend the holiday with us and they’ve come back to join us again this year with their two new puppies! Typically during the Holidays we’re off to visit our families in Michigan, so I’m grateful for new traditions in our own home. We will have a house full of family, friends and fur babies to share Easter dinner and dessert with. Continue reading “Classic Carrot Cake”
Cinnamon Rolls with a Buttery Glaze
Most of our weekends are spent with our good friend having game nights (we get overly competitive with Clue and Monopoly btw), trying new restaurants, and having bonfires complete with smores in the summer! With it being his birthday this weekend, I asked him what I could make for a birthday treat and he said his favorite treats are cinnamon rolls – what better nightcap then a homemade warm cinnamon roll with a cold glass of milk?!
