Almond crescent cookies are another staple in our Croatian Christmas cookie baking day! These pretty little snowy crescent moons are another sweet treat that are prefect for a morning cup of coffee or post-dinner espresso. Speaking of espresso, in the afternoons, we often enjoyed Bosnian coffee (or Turkish coffee) together and these cookies are a perfect hint of sweet to the strong coffee flavor. Fun fact… this is also the same type of coffee that’s used in fortune telling. When the cup is finished, the left over grounds at the bottom form patterns called tasseomancy that is interpreted. Croatian Walnut Kifle Cookies
Kifle cookies are so darn good. We make two different kinds every year during our annual Croatian Cookie baking day. One is from a secret recipe that’s filled with a plum or apricot jam – these are SO good when you eat them fresh from the oven. The jam is warm and the dough is flaky and oh so tasty. The second kifle recipe we make is filled with a walnut mixture and rolled in powdered sugar. These sweet little treats goes perfect with a cup of coffee. Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Tart
It’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving recipes, can you believe it?! I love chocolate and pecan pies, and my husband loves bourbon so it was only a matter of time before this little dessert party happened. For Thanksgiving/Christmas, I typically like to bring pecan pie to share with family and friends. This year, we’ll be hosting our first Thanksgiving and I think this recipe makes for a great little twist to the classic pecan pie. If you want to go sans bourbon too, you’re still going to end up with a super yummy dessert! Depending on the size of your tart pan, this recipe will either make 2 medium-sized tarts, or 1 large. The cool thing about using a medium-sized tart pan is that you could keep one of the tarts classic or bourbon-free, while the other tart has the bourbon-chocolate party going on. I’m back in the kitchen just in time for my favorite season of baking… FALL<3! You may have wondered where I’ve been?! Well, in early August I travelled to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica to become a certified Yoga Instructor, and I just returned a few days ago. It was an absolutely incredible journey that forever transformed my life in ways that I cannot describe. I expanded my soul family, learned so much about myself and Yoga, got to be submerged in a beautiful surrounding, and was nourished daily with comforting food AND fabulous desserts! Cherry Chocolate Chunk Cookies + Girls Weekend in Pure Michigan!
It’s been a week since I got back from my lovely long girls weekend with my Mom and Aunt Michele in Frankfort, MI, and boy did we have a wonderful time – I can’t wait to do it all again next year!!!
One of the things we did on the first day was visit North Star Organics cherry farm nearby. This farm is so charming and beautiful and they were actually featured in a beautiful spread in Martha Stewart Living which was neat to see! They had both sweet and sour cherries, so we decided to do some fresh picking of red and white sweet cherries – these cherries are seriously so good and fresh. Not only did they have super yummy fresh cherries, but they have awesome dried cherries too that I decided I wanted to bake in a classic chocolate chip cookie.
